Estimation of water demand and its implications on water quantity and quality.
Management of water demand, through technology, policy and specifications
Improvement of efficiency in irrigation systems and its impact on groundwater availability.
Improvement in productivity per unit of water.
Improvement in water use efficiency through effective water management technologies and human resources development through Participatory Irrigation Management (PIM).
Lining of canals under running water conditions.
Cheaper/better hardware for drip and sprinkler system.
Various techniques for prevention and relief of water logging, and reclamation of saline lands.
Bio-drainage system for maintenance of salt and water balance on long term sustainability.
Issues related to equitable distribution of water in different regions as per the requirement.
Water Policy (Equitable distribution and water use rights)
Studies for evaluation of impact of large irrigation/multi-purpose projects on environment and related aspects.
Pollution by agro-chemicals.
About 60 research schemes have been completed, 40 are ongoing and 25 new schemes are under process.
The Guidelines for submission of new R&D proposals can be downloaded from the Ministry of Water Resources Website http://www.wrmin.nic.in and sent to the INCID Secretariat.
2) CO-ORDINATION WITH ICID & OTHER INTERNATIONAL ORGANISATIONS
ICID (International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage)
ICID was established on 24 June, 1950 as a Scientific, Technical and Voluntary Not-for-profit Non-Governmental International Organization (NGO) with headquarters in New Delhi, India. The Commission is dedicated to enhancing the worldwide supply of food and fibre for all people by improving water and land management and the productivity of irrigated and drained lands through appropriate management of water, environment and application of irrigation, drainage and flood management techniques. The activities of the Commission are pursued in accordance with the ICID Constitution and By-Laws. Latest version of these was adopted in 1996. English and French are the official languages of the Commission. The objectives of the Commission aim at stimulating and promoting the development and application of the arts, sciences and techniques of engineering, agriculture, economics, ecology and social sciences in managing water and land resources for irrigation, drainage, flood control and river training and for research in a more comprehensive manner adopting upto-date techniques. ICID has a membership of 110 Countries in the World. India is one of the Eleven Founder Member Countries of ICID. For furthering the objectives of ICID and coordination of various activities including collation and compilation of information/data its publication and dissemination of information and activities in the field of irrigation, drainage and flood management each country has set up National Committees for the purpose.
